Port Clinton is in northern Ohio, in Ottawa County.
Port Clinton has many miles of waterfront along the southwestern
edge of Lake Erie. The region is widely known for its fishing, beaches, boating and
exciting island excursions.
Surrounding Port Clinton is six Ohio State Parks with golfing,
beaches, picnic areas, hiking trails, marinas, campgrounds, wildlife observation sites and
lots of fishing.
Port Clinton has many historical attractions.
Johnson's Island Cemetery is a civil war cemetery and the island
is known for a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp.
Perry's Victory Monument is 352 feet high and provides tours.
During the tour, one will learn about the Battle of Lake Erie and will see across Lake
Erie to Canada.
Camp Perry National Guard Camp is a 640-acre training center
operated by the Ohio National Guard. It is also the home of the National Rifle and Pistol
Matches in July and August. Six thousand shooters and their families visit each year.
The Marblehead lighthouse is another historical site that should
be visited by lighthouse enthusiasts.
Other attractions include Cedar Point Amusement Park (20 minutes
from Port Clinton), the African Safari Wildlife Park (with giraffes, zebras, ostriches and
other exotic animals), golf courses, wildlife refuges, vineyards, and more.
|The Lake Erie Islands, or the "Crown Jewels of Ottawa County", are
easily accessible by ferry boat.
|Kellys Island is the largest island in the U.S. and is known for its Glacial
Grooves and wineries. |
Put-in-Bay also has wineries and is on South Bass Island. It has
plenty of shops, restaurants and nightclubs.
Middle Bass Island is known for its quiet beauty. Its earliest
settlers named it "Isle de Fleurs".
Also beautiful and remote, North Bass Island is primarily a
vineyard tended by descendants of early wine makers
